Arctic Son
In 1995, director Andrew Walton travelled thousands of miles to the remote community of Old Crow, Yukon, north of the Arctic Circle. There he befriended Johnny Abel, then the Chief of Old Crow, Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. Shortly before he died, Abel asked Walton to make a film about the community that would help the elders and the youth find common ground, preserve the past, and integrate the future. Arctic Son is that film. "Knowing that a gun was always within arm‘s reach made me realize that I was in a very different place. Old Crow and the Canadian Arctic are like nowhere else I‘ve been and the people are like few I‘ve ever met. When I got to know Stanley Njootli Sr., and later his son, Stan Jr., I knew I’d found a great story." Andrew Walton
