Green Motion: The Future of Filmmaking Is Sustainable

Logline

"GreenMotion - the future of filmmaking is sustainable".

The making of motion pictures, TV, and online or VoD productions results in high CO₂ emissions. A significant proportion of these CO₂ emissions can be avoided by switching to more environmentally friendly and resource-saving production methods. The most important aspect is planning in new and modified production processes early on. However, content development also offers great potential for finding creative and more sustainable solutions.

Since January 1, 2022, a broad alliance of industry representatives from the German film, TV, and VoD market has voluntarily been creating a large amount of their content in ways that are climate-friendly and conservational. To this end, they have developed minimum ecological standards, made a binding commitment, and founded the GreenMotion label. These minimum standards are now to be followed by uniform standards for state and federal German film subsidies, which will be mandatory starting on January 1, 2023.
Looking at green productions, we shall discuss experiences, opportunities, and policies and look into the sustainable future of filmmaking and storytelling.
