The Fritz Gerlich Prize is awarded at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN to a current feature film or documentary that boldly addresses a topic that the media have reported on. The aim is to do justice to Fritz Gerlich’s efforts to put a stop to dictatorship and intolerance, to stand up for human dignity resolutely and unflinchingly, and thus to oppose all forms of totalitarian abuse of power, persecution, and repression. The 10,000-euro prize, sponsored by TELLUX-Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH in Munich, is in memory of Munich publicist Fritz Gerlich, who was born on February 15, 1883 and murdered at the Dachau concentration camp on June 30, 1934. As a Catholic, he denounced the inhuman ideology of the National Socialists with exemplary courage from an early age and was one of the first members of the intellectual and religious resistance to be murdered at the Dachau concentration camp.
