Logline

A film about Jonas Mekas, a pioneer of avant-garde cinema, who attempted to find beauty amid profound loss and make sense of it all.

For more than 70 years, Jonas Mekas documented his life in what came to be known as his diary films. From his arrival in New York City as a displaced person in 1949 until his death in 2019, he chronicled the trauma and loss he felt while in exile, as he pioneered institutions to support the growth of independent film in the United States. FRAGMENTS OF PARADISE is an intimate look at his life and work.

FRAGMENTS OF PARADISE

KD Davison

KD Davison co-directed her debut film, ORDINARY PEOPLE, in collaboration with Natalie Johns and, in 2019, directed the film adaptation of Jon Meacham's THE SOUL OF AMERICA for HBO. Davison is driven by the sense that filmmaking can make us better: if it's not uplifting, if it doesn't pierce the limitations of habitual thinking and illuminate our better selves, what's the point? She left her childhood home in small-town Texas for New York at age 18 and currently divides her time between New York and Los Angeles. FRAGMENTS OF PARADISE, which she produced and directed, is her third documentary feature and her first independently financed film.
