Elegance Bratton's striking film about a queer US Marine Corps recruit was inspired by the director's own life story.
Ellis is a sensitive young man whose devout mother has disowned him because of his homosexuality. He sees the US military as his only path to a better life that will earn the respect and recognition of everyone, especially his mother. Instead, he finds himself immersed in a thoroughly homophobic environment and must navigate the thin line between subordination and rebellion.

Elegance Bratton
Elegance Bratton is an award-winning director, writer and producer. He began making films in the US Marine Corps after being homeless for a decade. Bratton holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University (2014) and a Master of Fine Arts from NYU (2019). As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, he captures untold stories in order to reveal the universal power of humanity. Bratton's films have been screened at more than 200 festivals worldwide, including that Sundance Festival, Outfest, BFI, Doc NYC, and the BlackStar Film Festival. He made his television debut as the creator and executive producer of the series MY HOUSE. His documentary film, PIER KIDS, made its television and streaming debut in the United States in August 2021. THE INSPECTION had its world premiere as the opening film of the Discovery section at the Toronto International Film Festival and closed the 2022 New York Film Festival.
