Logline

I hear, therefore I am. In Caroline Link's acclaimed debut film, a girl discovers the world of music -- and in so doing, discovers who she is.

Lara's parents are deaf. Since she is the only one in her family who can hear and speak, she has been the link between her parents and the outside world from an early age, interpreting for them in the most absurd situations. When Lara receives a clarinet as a gift from her spirited and fun-loving aunt Clarissa, she begins to discover the wonderful world of music. Clarissa casts more and more of a spell over the girl. Thus begins Lara's farewell to her parents' home and to her childhood.

This screening is for free.

The screening of BEYOND SILENCE will conclude the Cast-Me-In Day, Sunday, June 25 at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN. Opening doors, creating encounters - for more visibility of people with disabilities in film. This is the goal of Tina Thiele's Cast Me In initiative with Erwin Aljukic as patron and Caroline Link as godmother at the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (HFF) and at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN. At the casting event (by invitation), actors* with and without disabilities from Munich and the region meet casting decision-makers. At a public panel in the Amerikahaus, Sunday, 10:00 a.m., we will ask what Germany can learn from other countries on the topic of "inclusion in film".

We offer an inclusive version for this film in cooperation with the app GRETA.
