FILMMAKERS LIVE! CINETOPIAS - NEW CONCEPTS FOR CINEMATIC SPACES

What is cinema capable of being today? This panel will discuss new notions of cinematic spaces — from Italy to Berlin, from streaming platforms to museums.

Andrea Lissoni, Ph.D., has been the artistic director of Munich’s Haus der Kunst since 2020. Previously he was senior curator of international art (film) at Tate Modern, London, and a curator at HangarBicocca, Milan. At Tate he launched and co-curated new exhibition formats, the display of the collection, and the program of live events at the opening in 2016. For years, he has been interested in exploring cinematic spaces in which film, art, and video art converge.

SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA by bi’bak explores cinema as a space of social discourse, dialogue, and solidarity. At its new location in Berlin-Wedding, SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA establishes itself as a transnational space for film culture, art, knowledge, and community, creating a bridge between urban space and film as cultural practice. Here, a place is created where urbanity and transnationalism coexist, a place that enables access, that is stimulating, educational, moving, provocative, and encouraging.

Cinema Troisi is a unique space in the European landscape. It aims to be a new and “inclusive” cinema (in terms of tastes, audience, proposals, and programming choices) and at the same time a space open to culture in its broadest sense. Hence the idea for a theater that not only shows films, but is also a vehicle for gaining and conveying knowledge, which young people can discover or rediscover thanks to a space where they can study, plan, and discuss things for free.

MUBI believes cinema should be viewed on screens of all shapes and sizes. It offers a membership program that seeks to give art-house fans much of what they could want in one package: a well-stocked streaming service bundled with a weekly ticket they can use to go see a hand-picked film at their favorite theater. MUBI GO mashes up the membership concept behind MoviePass and the at-home streaming convenience of Netflix for those with a taste for international and independent cinema — and at its core is a love for curation.
