Deployment

Daniel, Ronnie and Emal are German soldiers stationed in Afghanistan with the ISAF. The troops’ have two major rules: no one makes his own decisions and no one gets involved in local Afghan affairs. They are rebuilding a school in a remote town. Providing valuable help is German aid worker and teacher Anna, whose best friend Tara, the daughter of local chieftain Jamil, lost two fingers to the Taliban for using nail polish. The work of the soldiers is made increasingly difficult by Taliban raids, archaic traditions, and the vague boundaries between help and harm . . . The situation comes to a head when one of Jamil’s sons is killed by Americans and Tara is to be wed to the local Taliban leader. Anna begs the ISAF soldiers to intervene. But that means breaking their two most important rules . . .
