Helge Albers has been Managing Director of MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein since the beginning of April 2019. He has been in the film business for almost 25 years: from being a student at the Babelsberg Film Academy to part-time jobs as a sound man, lighting technician or set designer, the former producer is, in his own words, still fascinated by the insane process of filmmaking. With his first company, "Flying Moon", he was able to take home a German Film Award for best documentary in 2001 as producer of Uli Gaulke's HAVANNA, MI AMOR. From Cuba, the film made several stops at the FULL METALL VILLAGE in Wacken, Schleswig-Holstein. Cho Sung-Hyung's documentary about the heavy metal festival of the same name was the most successful documentary film of 2007. In 2015, his co-produced short film AVE MARIA received an Oscar nomination, and in 2016 he won a Lola for best documentary film with ABOVE AND BELOW. After the insolvency of "Flying Moon" and the relaunch of a production company with a focus on German-Chinese co-productions with "Achtung Panda!", he breathed new life into the Association of German Film Producers (VDFP) together with other producers. In the role of managing director, he was essential in putting the association back on the film policy map. His experience as a producer, managing director of the VDFP, as a committee member of the FFA, at the World Cinema Fund and the German Film Academy ultimately brought him to Germany's northernmost film funding organisation.
