Sara Fazilat is an actress, film producer and screenwriter .

After graduating from high school in Bremen, Sara attended RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) and Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In 2012 Sara moved back to Germany to study film production at DFFB in Berlin and Columbia University in New York.

In 2014, she participated in the MAKING WAVES workshop, where she studied film marketing and distribution. A year later, her film NOT TOO EARLY, NOT TOO LATE (co-screenwriter) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the GOLDEN SPATZ (2016).

At the 64th San Sebastian International Film Festival, Sara was a member of the student jury for the international film category. In 2017, she was a VGF Young Producers Scholarship recipient and was selected for the film NICO (co-screenwriter) for the BERLINALE TALENTS.

The screenplay LOUISE, which Sara co-wrote with River Matzke and Anna Maria Roznowska, was selected for the Central European Feature Project in 2018. In the same year, Sara received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation and was selected for the VGF International Producers Program in Cannes. Since 2018, Florian Koerner von Gustorf has been her mentor.

The film REVOLVO, which she produced, won various awards in 2020 as well as the rating Besonders Wertvoll and was invited to Cannes by German Films. Her film JIYAN won at the Max Ophüls Festival 2020, the Ecumenical Jury Prize and other prizes in Belfort, Neisse and at the Heimatfilmfestival Austria and Sehsüchte Film Festival.

In 2020 she was elected to the board of Pro Quote Film. In the same year Sara founded her own production company THIRD CULTURE KIDS.

NICO is her graduation film at the DFFB, this film premiered in 2021 at the Max Ophüls Film Festival there Sara received the award for Best Young Actress for the role of NICO in the same year, also for NICO, at the First Steps Prize the NO FEAR AWARD as producer. At the Achtung Berlin Festival she received the award: Best Acting at the Neisse FilmFestival she received the Best Performance award, and at the Braunschweig International Film Festival she received the Braunschweig Film Award as Actress. NICO also won the QueerScope Debut Film Award which is given annually by 21 film festivals in Germany and Switzerland to one film also at the 42nd Biberach Film Festival NICO won the Debut Film Award- At the FILMZ Festival in Mainz NICO won the feature film competition. In Austria/Radstadt NICO won the Youth Jury Award and at the 40th Cambridge Film Festival NICO received the Youth Lab Jury Award.

NICO had its international premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival, and also screened at various festivals worldwide e.g. Framline Festival, Cambridge, Sydney, Moscow, Oslo, Copenhagen etc. The film will be released in 2022 and has been sold to the Goethe Institute.

2022 NICO was nominated for the German Film Award.

Her screenplay ARIER was selected for the First Steps Masterclass 2021.
