FILMTALK: DO YOU SPEAK GENRE? FURY, VIOLENCE AND BOUNDARIES IN FILMMAKING
FRESH, a brutal ballad about brothers, borrows from various genres such as gangster movies, comedies, and thrillers. While the dividing lines that supposedly exist between genres have long been blurred elsewhere, films like FRESH are still the exception in Germany. Where does the rigid conception of genre or mixed-genre films and their supposed inferiority come from?
