Logline

This masterpiece was honored with no fewer than eight Japanese film awards.

Rie has found happiness with her second husband, Daisuke, with whom she's started a new family. But when Daisuke dies in an accident, Rie discovers that he was apparently not who she thought he was. Rie asks a lawyer to find out the truth about the man she loved. Thus begins a search that ultimately raises broader questions about each person's identity and authenticity.

Kei Ishikawa

Kei Ishikawa was born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, in 1977. After earning a degree in physics from Tohoku University, he attended the Polish National Film School. Upon his return to Japan, he worked on several documentaries and short films. In 2017, he directed his debut film, TRACES OF SIN, and received various awards as an up-and-coming director. In 2019, he directed LISTEN TO THE UNIVERSE, which received awards that included the Hochi Film Award for best film and the Mainichi Film Award for best director.
