A comedy whose black humor addresses double standards, absurdity, and normality.
17-year-old Tiquinho is an openly queer influencer. This doesn’t suit his mother, Suellen, who’s convinced that she only wants what’s best for her son. She pressures him to undergo the expensive conversion therapy provided by an evangelical cult. But without the money to pay for what she thinks is right, she resorts to criminal means.

Meet the director
Carolina Markowicz
Carolina Markowicz lives and works in São Paulo. Her short films EDIFÍCIO TATUAPÉ MAHAL (2014) and O ÓRFÃO (2018) have received numerous awards. In 2015, she was invited to participate in the Toronto International Film Festival’s Talent Lab, where she was mentored by Wim Wenders. Her first feature-length film, CARVÃO, later had its grand premiere at that festival in 2022. PEDÁGIO is her second feature-length film.
