Logline

A hard-hitting drama from Greenland, based on a true story.

Jan is determined to leave everything behind: his home country, his painful memories, and most of all his father, who sexually abused him. With his wife and children by his side, Jan attempts a fresh start in Greenland, dreaming of finally putting down roots and becoming part of a large community. However, the past can’t be shaken off that easily.

Meet the director

KALAK

Isabella Eklöf

Isabella Eklöf, born in Sweden in 1978, attended the National Film School of Denmark. The short film WELCOME TO BARBARISTAN marked her debut as a director in 2009. HOLIDAY, a thriller, followed in 2018. After directing the series SERVANT (2021) and INDUSTRY (2022), her second feature-length film, KALAK, premiered at San Sebastián in 2023. She also achieved recognition as co-author of the screenplay to BORDER (FILMFEST MÜNCHEN 2018).
