An angry portrait of a France that is falling apart.
When the mayor of a Paris suburb dies, Pierre, a doctor, agrees to fill the position. He intends to continue the xenophobic policies of his predecessor, who aimed to redevelop these poverty-stricken immigrant neighborhoods. But Haby, an activist resident of immigrant heritage, refuses to be driven out and mounts an escalating battle for the office.

Meet the director
Ladj Ly
Ladj Ly grew up in the Parisian suburb of Montfermeil. His first feature-length film, LES MISÉRABLES (FILMFEST MÜNCHEN 2019), was promptly accepted to be screened in competition at Cannes, where it was awarded the Jury Prize. Ladj Ly is a member of Kourtrajmé, an artists’ collective founded in 1994. His second feature-length film, LES INDÉSIRABLES, premiered in Toronto.
