Beate is an ambitious executive at Europa, a mysterious corporation looking to expand into the Balkans. Although outwardly promoting philanthropy, Europa is buying up land from locals. Beate is assigned to be the company’s main negotiator on this ambiguous mission. But all plans go awry when a farmer refuses to leave the land of his ancestors.

Meet the director
Sudabeh Mortezai
Sudabeh Mortezai, born in 1968, grew up in Tehran and Vienna. She studied theater and film studies in Vienna and Los Angeles. Her debut feature, MACONDO, premiered in competition at the Berlinale in 2014. Her second feature film, JOY, premiered in Venice in 2018 and received numerous international awards, including Best Film at the London Film Festival and the Etoile d’Or at the Marrakech International Film Festival.
