LATE NIGHT Rounds Out the Filmfest.

TRULY FUNNY

Last year, Emma Thompson captivated the Filmfest audience with her energetic enthusiasm, her enthralling charm, and her casual spontaneity. Soon the British actress will return to FILMFEST MÜNCHEN on the screen. As a tough talk-show host assisted by Mindy Kaling, she wins over the hearts of her viewers in her latest comedy, LATE NIGHT. This film is full of wit, charm, and clever dialogue, and has an excellent cast. It will be screened as the festival's closing film as part of the award ceremony in the Carl-Orff-Saal at the Gasteig on July 6.

Late Night Online1

For almost 30 years, Katherine (Emma Thompson) has been the host of her own popular talk show, TONIGHT WITH KATHERINE NEWBURY. Behind the scenes, however, she's an arrogant egomaniac. When she's accused of being a "women who hates women", she impulsively hires Molly (Mindy Kaling), whose experience lies in a completely different line of work, to be the first woman on her writers' team. Katherine's ratings have been plummeting, and rumor is that she's to be replaced by a younger male host. To save her skin, Katherine must manage a game-changer in record time. Molly goes against everything Katherine has staked her reputation on in order to make Katherine's show more contemporary, authentic, and personal — even if this could cost her her job.

LATE NIGHT was directed by Golden Globe-winner Nisha Ganatra (THE HUNTERS, TRANSPARENT, BETTER THINGS), who gave it a stellar cast. Golden Globe and Oscar-winner Emma Thompson is part of an ensemble that includes Mindy Kaling (OCEAN’S 8, THE NIGHT BEFORE), who also wrote the screenplay and produced the film, multiple Emmy and Golden Globe-winner John Lithgow, Reid Scott, and Hugh Dancy.
