A Rascal and a Gentleman
Part of what’s different about the 38th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN are some unusual locations and lots of new partners. This year, the Pasinger Fabrik is one of them! Its Ebenböckhaus villa and historic park in the west of Munich will be an outdoor venue for FILMFEST MÜNCHEN and the gateway to a very special chapter in film history.
A little anarchy rarely hurts, especially not in the dusty postwar years that tended to gloss over the past. Such anarchy is found in the work of film producer and director Franz Seitz, a Munich legend to whom the Pasinger Fabrik, in cooperation with FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, is dedicating the seven-part film series Homage to Franz Seitz: A Gentleman, a Rascal, and an Oscar.
DIE BLECHTROMMEL
LAUSBUBENGESCHICHTEN
TONIO KRÖGER
The series starts off with the Oscar-winning film THE TIN DRUM. Afterwards, over several days, a selection of Franz Seitz’s most popular films and most significant literary adaptations will return to the big screen. The selection includes two films about rascally and rebellious schoolchildren, LAUSBUBENGESCHICHTEN and DIE LÜMMEL VON DER ERSTEN BANK, and the literary adaptations TONIO KRÖGER, DAS SCHWARZ-WEISS-ROTE HIMMELBETT, and ERFOLG.
We get particularly close to Franz Seitz in the documentary ASK ME ANYTHING – FRANZ SEITZ, a portrait by his granddaughter, Anni Seitz. This film will celebrate its world premiere at the Pasinger Fabrik on July 2 as part of FILMFEST MÜNCHEN.
Numerous contemporaries of “Buba” Seitz, as his friends and colleagues liked to call him, will also reflect on the gentleman filmmaker and grand master of all rascals in film discussions over the course of several days. And maybe even Oscar himself will drop by. You can look forward to a week of exciting moments in cinema in the open air!
