Outside the Box
As a way of giving the audience the opportunity to ask filmmakers about their working methods, the free FILMMAKERS LIVE! talks have proven their worth for years. This year, you can get up close and personal with our special guests Barbara Sukowa, Jessica Hausner, and Shu Lea Cheang during these conversations, and other noted filmmakers will do us the honor as well. We’re expecting celebrated Italian director Paolo Genovese, AMERICAN PSYCHO director Mary Harron, and British old master Stephen Frears, for example. All three will present their latest works and will also talk about their many years of experience as directors. At the FILMMAKERS LIVE! talk on the documentary WAR AND JUSTICE, we will welcome Luis Moreno Ocampo, the chief prosecutor at the International Criminal Court, to our Filmfest stage at the Amerikahaus. If you want to get to know up-and-coming filmmakers from around the world who are influencing contemporary independent cinema, we recommend NEW VISIONS FROM AFRICA, (DE-) CONSTRUCTING MASCULINITIES, and ITALIAN CINEMA NOW.
You’ll find an overview of all FILMMAKERS LIVE! talks here.

During the festival, Pavillon 333 at the Pinakothek der Moderne is providing the setting for an AI Lab which will offer new events every day free of charge. Open questions of a cinematic, aesthetic, social, and political nature will be posed, with broad support from specialists in the creative industries, art, and science. From June 24 to 29, from 3 to 6 pm each day, you can experience art installations, discussions, lectures, and more. On June 26, an extended-reality (XR) experience called CONSENSUS GENTIUM will use state-of-the-art facial recognition to illustrate the ramifications of current AI technology.

Discussions of current issues affecting the film industry will be held by ProQuote Film, by the Green, SPD, and CSU factions of the Bavarian State Parliament, and other groups. These are open to the general public. You can also attend a master class in Adobe Premiere Pro and find out about the current state of inclusivity in German film. At the Literaturhaus, there will be an exhibition by director Hermann Vaske relating to his documentary CAN CREATIVITY SAVE THE WORLD?
At the Beergarden Convention on the grounds of the festival center at the Amerikahaus, accredited persons can meet and share ideas. Many types of discussions will also be held there this year. In addition to a showcase of the series ASBESTOS by Kida Kodr Ramadan, which will be used to discuss the success of series in media libraries, and a marketing workshop by HanWay Films, there will also be numerous CineCoPro Conference events on European co-productions and their potential.
