About CineYou

FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is launching a new project in 2024. CineYou is a program that aims to engage primarily with young moviegoers and strengthen their ties to the festival. It’s much more than a selection of films; it’s a laboratory for experimentation whose various workshops, projects, and special events will provide an opportunity to actively participate in the festival and become acquainted with the art of film on a level that goes beyond simply watching movies. The hands-on events, which will provide deep insight into the world of film and festivals, are aimed primarily at children, teenagers, and young adults.

CineYou will start off with the Young Night, held in cooperation with the Museum Brandhorst and the Kunstareal München on the evening of June 28, 2024 on the grounds between the Pinakothek der Moderne and the Museum Brandhorst. FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is looking forward to appealing to a wide range of young people with a cinematic program as part of the party.

CineYou will be overseen by Tobi Krell and Tobi Obermeier, who also curate the Filmfest’s CineKindl section of children’s films, formerly known as the Kinderfilmfest.

If you want to carry a vibrant film and cinema culture into the future, you have to support the next generation. This is exactly what we want to do more of with CineYou: To get young people excited about the diversity of the medium of film and the special place of the cinema!

YOUNG Jury

One of the major innovations this year is the Young Jury. Five young adults from Munich will be given the opportunity to award a prize to a film in the FILMFEST MÜNCHEN program that does an exceptional job of relating the experiences of young people. The members of the jury will be given introductory training in talking about films and will be able to observe in detail how a film festival is organized. They will not only watch films, but will also meet filmmakers and the people who make the festival happen.

A behind-the-scenes look

Existing activities will be integrated into the CineYou program. This year, for example, we will again be welcoming students from the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich. Under the guidance of Dunja Bialas, a journalist who reports on arts and culture, these young adults will receive introductory training in film criticism. The texts they write will be published on the Artechock film platform during the week of the festival.

As in the previous two years, an online workshop with Tobias Krell, aka Checker Tobi, will again be available to school classes of grades 1 through 6 free of charge, starting in mid-June. This will reveal to young audiences in an interesting and exciting way how motion pictures are made.

The Filmfest is also delighted to once again invite the NewMotion initiative to Munich. The job entry program is aimed specifically at career entrants and career changers with no previous experience in film and no contacts in the industry in order to facilitate access to film and television through low-threshold job shadowing. Together, a speed dating format is designed to get to know the film industry and invite people to network.

Once again, a group of young people will be invited to a workshop in which they will film the trailer for the CineKindl section. A noted film director will work with them to develop the concept and carry out the film shoot.

The members of the Munich Youth Jury of the FBW (Deutsche Film- und Medienbewertung) will once again have the opportunity to be part of the Filmfest team and go on stage to present a film. They will welcome the audience to the screening and talk to the film team afterward.
