For the rousing finale of FILMFEST MÜNCHEN POP-UP, two open-air premieres will showcase the entire spectrum of the pop-up series: local hero Klaus Lemke will present his new Munich film “A Callgirl for Ghosts”, while celebrated Danish actor-director Ulrich Thomsen lets Danish humor collide with American westerns and German cultural assets in “Gutterbee”.

True to the traditional motto of summer, sun, and Munich, the new FILMFEST MÜNCHEN POP-UP format will celebrate both film and summer in the city in July and August 2020. In cooperation with the PopUp Autokino München drive-in theater and the Kino am Olympiasee, FILMFEST MÜNCHEN will present seven brand-new films and series in the open air — all of them world premieres attended by special guests. Whether from a car seat or a deck chair, the focus of all the events is the shared analog experience of film in the urban space of the city of Munich.

In this unusual year, the 38th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN will screen 70 feature-length films from 29 countries, including 28 German premieres and 33 world premieres — all on the big screen, at nine open-air locations and in seven Filmfest theaters. This year, both Senta Berger and Robin Wright will be honored with the CineMerit Award for their achievements in the art of film. Other honorees will include Franka Potente (Margot Hielscher Award) and Małgorzata Szumowska (tribute).
OPENING GALA: The 39th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN has started

This evening, June 23, the 39th edition of FILMFEST MÜNCHEN held its opening gala in Munich. Some 1,500 guests from the arts, the film industry, and local government attended the ceremony at the new Gasteig HP8 venue for concerts and cultural events.
